Funding for Graduate Students

Most graduate students in the Field of Plant Pathology & Plant-Microbe Biology receive full funding in one of three forms: fellowships, graduate research assistantships (GRAs), and teaching assistantships in introductory biology courses (TAs). GRAs may come from departmental resources or from individual faculty research programs. All of these funding sources include a stipend, tuition and fees, and student health insurance. GRA stipends in the Field of Plant Pathology & Plant-Microbe Biology for the 2008-2009 academic year are approximately $27,600 per year.

Our goal is to offer first-year students funding that is not tied to a research program so that they have the opportunity to explore broadly their interests. Some students take advantage of the opportunities to do short rotations in several laboratories. In addition to these sources of funding, all students are encouraged to apply for external fellowships.
