Two Departments of Plant Pathology!

Cornell University is unusual in having two Departments of Plant Pathology, one on the main campus in Ithaca, the other at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Ithaca. The two departments are administratively independent, but programatically linked, especially for graduate education. Graduate students and faculty in both departments are part of the same graduate program, administered by the Graduate Field of Plant Pathology & Plant-Microbe Biology.

Approximately three fourths of the graduate students in the Field of Plant Pathology & Plant-Microbe Biology are located in Ithaca. Most coursework in done in Ithaca, although some classes are offered in Geneva, and seminars and selected classes are linked by video conferencing. Transportation is provided for students traveling between the two campuses. Students who conduct their thesis research in Geneva typically finish all course work in Ithaca during their first two years.
