Detailed instructions for applying to the Field of Plant Pathology & Plant-Microbe Biology
The deadline for applications for the 2009 Fall semester (beginning in late-August) is January 5, 2009. For more information on the timetable for the application process, see below.
The application must be completed in two parts: 1) the online application to the Graduate School, and 2) official transcripts sent directly to the Field.
1) Online application:
Application form and application fee: The Graduate School uses an online application; complete instructions for the application may be found at the Graduate School application web site. The secure online form is easy to use and your application is received immediately. The application fee is USD $70.
Statement of purpose: Your statement of purpose is submitted online following the instructions for the online application. It is not necessary to send a hard copy to the Field.
GRE scores: GRE scores are sent directly to the Graduate School. The institutional code for Cornell University is 2098; the department code for Plant Pathology is 0112.
TOEFL scores (when applicable): TOEFL scores are sent directly to the Graduate School. The institutional code for Cornell University is 2098; the department code for Plant Pathology is 30.
Letters of recommendation: Letters can be submitted online following the instructions for the online application. Recommenders may choose to send hard copies to the Field instead of submitting online (see below for instructions). If submitted online, it is not necessary to send hard copies to the Field.
Please note that the Graduate School will not accept materials sent by e-mail or fax; these are discouraged by the Field as well.
2) Mail directly to the Field:

Official transcripts: Official transcripts of your undergraduate and graduate studies (if applicable) should be sent directly to the Field at the address below.
Letters of recommendation : Letters only need to be sent directly to the Field if they are not submitted online (see above).

When to apply
The deadline for applications for the 2009 Fall semester (beginning in late-August) is January 5, 2009. Early applications are strongly encouraged. To be considered for Cornell Graduate Fellowships, Cornell Genomics Fellowships, and other University-sponsored fellowships, applicants must arrange to have all of their application materials received by the Graduate School and the Field by the January 5 deadline.
Applications for Spring admission are considered only under exceptional circumstances and are generally discouraged. Inquiries may be made to the Graduate Field for more information.
The following is an approximate timetable describing key steps in the application and admissions process:
